Donald Van Gieson, 60, of Brighton, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021.
Donald was born October 25, 1960 at Camp Pendleton, California. He graduated from East Detroit High School in 1979. While still in high school, he started welding and became very good at his trade. This led him to a career with Chrysler after high school.
But for Donald, family was very important. He married the love of his life, Cindy Stano, on October 22, 1994 and were blessed with two boys, Adam and Daniel. He was not only a devoted husband, but a committed father as well. Donald was a scouting dad, a scout leader, cub master, an eagle coach, and a proud dad of two Eagle Scouts. He enjoyed being a chaperone at band camp with them as well.
He had a beautiful deep voice, that came in handy always yelling for the boys. They always knew he was there, and so did their friends. He loved to fish, go camping with the scouts, build model airplanes, and was extremely handy and could fix anything. Donald also had a way with words. He was succinct yet profound, and was a tremendous writer, always helping the boys keep things simple. He will be greatly missed.
Beloved husband of Cindy for 27 years. Loving father of Adam and Daniel. Devoted son of Sandra Van Gieson. Also survived by his father Melvyn Van Gieson (Karen). Favorite son-in-law of Nancy Stano and the late Leonard Stano. Brother-in-law of Gary Stano and Ronald Stano (Kelly). Preceded in death by his brother Tom Van Gieson.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 27, 2021 at 11:30am at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church 2201 S. Old U.S. 23 Highway, Brighton, MI 48114. Gathering to begin at 10:30 am.
