Obituary for Derek Joseph Graham

Derek Joseph Graham, 32, of Lansing, Michigan passed away in his sleep on Wednesday, July 5, 2022. Derek was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Livonia on June 2, 1990 to Kim and the late Gregory Graham. He moved to Hartland in 1992 and graduated from Hartland High School in 2008. Growing up on Bitten Lake, Derek enjoyed swimming fishing and playing pond hockey with his brother and neighborhood friends He loved skateboarding and getting his monthly fill of Thrasher Magazine.

Derek had a love of animals and a passion to save the sloths in Costa Rica. Sadly, he leaves behind his beloved dog, Lexi, 10 years old and cat, Houdini, 2 years old.

While working at Outback Steakhouse in high school, Derek developed a passion for cooking. This is where he also developed his love/hate relationship with butter, He worked at many fine dining establishments in the Lansing and East Lansing area.

All who knew Derek would describe him as a soft spoken, kind young man with a wicked sense of humor. People were drawn to his kind heart and loving energy. Derek loved all genres of music but his favorite was Electronic music. Derek and Brandie spent many years attending Electric Forest and many other festivals all over the United States. He will be greatly missed but need forgotten by all who crossed his path.

Loving son of Kim Graham and the late Gregory Graham. Dear brother of Sarah Graham (Jared Vanfulpen) and Justin Graham. Grandson of Eileen Graham (the late Ronald), Barbara Furman and step-grandson of Christine Dorsten (the late Donald Dorsten). Uncle of Jayce Graham, Lennon Vanfulpen, Barrett Graham, and Hendrix Vanfulpen. He is also survived by uncles, aunts, cousins, his longtime partner, Brandie Stehle, and his faithful companions, Lexi and Houdini.

Memorial Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 17, 2022 from 12:00pm-3:00pm at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home 600 E. Main St. Brighton,
Ml 48116.
