Obituary for Dana Faye Hentrup

Dana Faye Hentrup of South Lyon passed away peacefully on July 26, 2018 at the age of 53 after a courageous seven year battle with breast and ovarian cancer.

Dana was born on November 26, 1964 to James “Ken” and Janice (Prosser) Pratt in Saginaw, Michigan. She grew up in the St. Charles area and graduated from St. Charles High School in 1982. With a love and desire to help people, she went on to earn her Associates degree in surgical technology, a Bachelor of Arts degree from Spring Arbor College, and continued her education at Detroit Mercy graduating with a Master’s degree in Physician Assistance. Dana was very passionate about her career and time as a cardiothoracic physician assistant at McLaren Hospital in Flint and later at the University of Michigan. In addition to her desire to work with people, Dana had a love of the out-of-doors. She and Larry enjoyed traveling to Aspen Colorado, Naples Florida, and she had a special fondness for Michigan and Florida beaches and for their trips to South Carolina. During their travels, they made sure to visit all of their combined families. She enjoyed all the beauty that was there, by golfing, fishing, and taking in rodeos. At home, Dana was a tremendous homemaker and enjoyed every day on Hidden Lake in her “vacation home”. Many blankets were made with exceptional care for babies and families as well as Hidden Lakes Estate Bible study group.

Dana was a beautiful, fun person with a tenacity for life. She was fondly called by many names such as, honey, mother, mom-mom, daughter, sister (sissy), aunt and true friend. Dana was a giving and compassionate person. She dearly loved her family, and with the same passion fought to spend as much time as possible with them.

Dana is survived by her husband, Larry Charles Hentrup; her children, Christian (Cori) Umstead of Arlington, TN; daughter, Kristy (Craig) Mallory of White Lake, MI, Taylor Hentrup of South Lyon, MI; granddaughters, Lola and Ava Umstead of Arlington,TN and grandson, Jackson Mallory of White Lake, MI; parents, Janice and James "Ken" Pratt of Effingham, SC; brother, Jamie Pratt of North Carolina; sister, Tammy (Bo) Cockfield of South Carolina; many nieces and nephews; two special great nephews, Heyward and Hampton of South Carolina; extended family members and dear friends.

Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 600 East Main Street, Brighton on Monday, July 30, 2018 from 1-4PM, with a celebration of her life at 4PM. A dinner will follow at the American Spirit Center in Brighton.
