Obituary for Dan Mihai Stirban

Dan Mihai Stirban, a long time resident of Brighton and native of Romania, died on March 10, 2018 after a hard fought battle with lymphoma. He was 59 years old.

Born on October 20, 1958 in Romania, the son of Dumitru and Nina (Balaboi) Stirban, Dan grew up in Romania where he studied geology at Al. I. Cuza University in Iasi, Romania. It was there that he met Laura Solcan. They fell in love and married on June 27, 1981. In February of 1991 they moved from Romania to Michigan and settled in Brighton, Michigan in 1996. Dan made his career with the General Motors Warren Tech Center where he enjoyed his work as a Senior Designer.

Dan enjoyed fishing, cooking, watching soccer matches, tending to his well-planned flower gardens, and hiking with his wife at Kensington Metro Park, and in their travels to Alaska, Hawaii, the Rocky Mountains, Yosemite National Park and many other places that allowed him to enjoy God’s great creation.

He was ever positive and full of life, always the “life of the party” and loved being with family and friends and playing with his grandchildren. He showed his family how to live, always centering himself with his deep faith, in all the joys and trials that life brought to him. He was an inspiration to everyone in how he handled his diagnosis and battle with Lymphoma, always remaining true to himself, his faith, and his knowing that he was going to another life after this one.

In addition to Laura, he is survived by his daughters, Alyssa (Brian) Hathaway and Madalina (Cameron) Hill; grandchildren, Brayden, Cheyenne, and Audrianna Hathaway, Kaelyn, Aviana, and Dominic Hill; his brother, Septimiu (Diana) Stirban; nephews, Iulius and Mihnea Stirban; mother-in-law, Valeria Solcan; father-in-law, Viorel Solcan; sister-in-law, Lacramioara (Franco) Redolfi; niece, Lucy Romagnoli, and many dear friends and colleagues.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 600 E. Main St., Brighton, on Saturday, March 17th, at 11 AM with Pastor Chris Cramer officiating. Burial to follow. Visitation will be on Friday, March 16th, from 2 PM - 8PM. Memorials may be made in his name to the Lukemia and Lymphoma Society. For further information please phone 810-229-2905.
