Obituary for Dale Edward Cooper

Dale Edward Cooper, 77, of Brighton and Lauderdale-by-the-sea, Florida, passed away on Monday, August 23, 2021.

Dale was a man of great faith, loved his family, loved his community, and set an example as a leader in the Brighton and Livingston County communities.

He was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on January 29, 1944, to the late Marshall and Ellen Jean Cooper. Dale graduated from Brighton High School and received his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University, remaining a lifelong fan of the Green and White. He went on to receive his Juris Doctorate degree from the Detroit College of Law. Dale had a gift for law. He began his practice in family law, with an office in the front of his father’s jewelry store, Cooper’s Jewelry, in downtown Brighton. Later transitioning into real estate law, Dale was a highly respected and admired attorney in Livingston County for well over 40 years.

Dale was a major player in the development of the Brighton area and Livingston County as we have come to know them today. He was a Rotarian, active member of the Greater Brighton Area Chamber of Commerce and Livingston County Bar Association, along with many other civic and charitable organizations. Dale instilled the value of service in his children as well, bringing them along when donating food and giving back to the community. He married Patricia on October 1, 1981, and their two families became one. Dale and Patty wintered in Florida for many years in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, making lifelong friends in their neighborhood and community. They always enjoyed spending time in Florida.

In his free time, Dale loved to golf and was a member of Lakelands Golf & Country Club. He enjoyed sailing and made many great memories with his family out on the water. Much time was spent at Grayling deer camp, although not much hunting was done. In his younger years, Dale spent summers at Burroughs Farms, spent time at boy scout camps, and was even an Eagle Scout himself. His faith and his church were always at the forefront for him.

Devoted husband of the late Patricia for 40 years. Loving father of Tracy Wright (Eric), Stacy Kelbert (Darrin), Jeff Cooper (late Teresa), Bradley Cooper (Abby), Kristy Meek, and Chad Cooper (Janet). Proud grandfather of Spencer Wright, Harrison Kelbert, Madison Wright, Mackenzie Kelbert, James Cooper, Julie Cooper, Wyatt Cooper, Bode Cooper, Finn Cooper, and Holly Cooper. Dear brother of Linda Latta (Dan).

Memorial visitation will be held on Friday, August, 27, 2021, from 5-8pm at Brighton Christian Church 4309 Buno Rd., Brighton, MI 48114.

A memorial service will be celebrated on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at 11:00am at the church. Visitation begins at the church at 10:00am.
