Obituary for Curtis Dean Smail, Sr.

Curtis Dean Smail, Sr. of Brighton died November 19, 2010 in the care of his family. He was 91 years old.

Born November 9, 1919 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, he was one of nine children born to parents Ira John & Ruth Frances Gertrude (McMichael) Smail.

In 1943 at the age of 23, Curt was drafted into the United States Army to serve our country abroad during World War II. He was a POW captured at the Battle of the Bulge, the story of which he shared often and one his family members now know by heart.

Preceded in death by his daughter Caren Namathe Smail; parents Ira John & Ruth Frances Gertrude (McMichael) Smail; & three brothers.

Survived by Lottie his beloved wife of 65 years; children Curtis (Dannielle) Smail Jr., Craig (Patricia) Smail, Cary Ira (Diane) Smail, Christy (Larry) McVay; grandchildren Allen, Shannon, Heather, Jennifer, Curtis III., Joshua, Lindsi, Caitlin, David, Nicole, Kyle, Ryan, Matthew, Derek; great-grandchildren Christopher, Jacob, Audrey, Nicholas, Hailey, Jim, Jonathan, Tyler; brother Vaughn; sisters Sally, Ida, Ada, Helen. Extended family & dear friends join in mourning his passing and giving thanks to God for his life among them.

Funeral from First United Methodist Church of Brighton, 400 E. Grand River Ave., Brighton, Monday 11 AM. Rev. John Ball to officiate. Burial & Military Honors Brighton Hills Cemetery. Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 600 E. Main St., Brighton Saturday 6-9 PM & Sunday 2-9 PM. Memorials encouraged to: Disabled American Veterans.
