Obituary for Charles J. Elder

Charles J. Elder age 73 of Brighton, Michigan died at home in the care of his family May 18, 2010.

Charles was born August 30, 1936 in Mercer County, Ohio to parents Clarence B. and Mabel Mae (nee. Stump) Elder. Charles graduated from Portland High School, Indiana in 1953 where he played saxophone in the school band and jazz band. He was born and raised on a farm. Even as a boy, Charles was taught to be a working man, a characteristic that would later lead him to his own farm north of Howell, Michigan where he raised 9 Appaloosa horses. His strong work ethic was also demonstrated through his dedication to the ROTC during his college years at Purdue University. Charles was a proud Purdue alumnus from the class of 1957.

Charles spent his career as an engineer with General Motors and retired after 41 years of dedicated work. He was a man of intellectual involvement who followed closely both local and national politics. He had great interest in his community and donated generously to many worthy causes. In his leisure, he enjoyed golf and the keeping of his beautiful yard. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family.

He is survived by Lillian Lisiecki Elder, his wife of 9 years; loving children Vicki (Ben) Dutcher, Rick Elder, Dan (Kathy) Elder, Joe (Kristin) Elder, Kristen (Kent) Elder; dear grandchildren Angela (Justin) Dutcher, Megan Dutcher, Mike, Steve and Nathan Elder; sister Clarice Mae Warrick and niece Jane (Bill) Hunt.

Charles graduated from Portland High School, Indiana in 1953 and is a proud alumnus of Purdue University class of 1957.

A Memorial Service will be held privately by his family. Charles will be buried in Swamp College Cemetery in Celina, Ohio with his parents.
