Charles J. “Chuck’ Lutz, a resident of Brighton, Michigan, died on February 12, 2021. He was 80 years old.
Born March 16, 1940 in Baldwin, Pennsylvania, Chuck was one of five sons to parents, Charles and Agnes (nee. Obringer) Lutz.
He attended Holy Angels Elementary School and graduated from Baldwin High School’s class of 1959. His roots grew deep in Pennsylvania and Chuck still cheered for all of the Pittsburgh sports team, including his beloved Steelers!
After high school, Charles joined the service and was stationed in Fort Polk, Louisiana. It was there that he met Elaine Matise on a blind date. From the time that they met, their love blossomed - Chuck would take weekend leave to visit with Elaine and on November 19, 1966, the two were wed and began their lives together. In due time, the couple was blessed by the births of their daughter, Kristen, and then, son, Charles ‘Chip.’
Chuck spent his career employed with General Motors and as a hobby, he also sold real estate for Town and Country in Brighton, MI. Chuck was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, the St. Pat’s Dad’a Club, and the Brighton Jaycees to name a few.
He enjoyed being a grandfather and attended all of his grand kids' activities and sporting events from dance recitals to little league games. It became an annual tradition to accompany his son, Chip to Washington, DC to help chaperone Chip’s 8th grade students. Charles was very handy, focused, generous with his time and wouldn’t hesitate to help his family complete any home improvement project or car repair. He cherished the memories made on the yearly Thanksgiving deer hunt with his brothers and was an avid coin collector giving mint sets as gifts on Birthdays and Christmas. Chuck and Elaine also organized a special annual, week-long family vacation at Twin Lakes where excursions were made to the Silver Lake Sand Dunes, as well as to Michigan Adventure Amusement Park.
Chuck was genuine, selfless, completely set in his ways and a true family man. He will be forever missed by those he loved.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Kristy (Jeff) Henry; his son, Charles “Chip” M. (Heather) Lutz; grandchildren, Nicholas “Nick” Henry, Grace “Gracie” Henry, Olivia “Livie” Henry, Carson and Ashlyn Lutz; brothers, Edward (Lynn) Lutz, Raymond (Mary Lou) Lutz and David (Jan) Lutz as well as many close friends and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his wife Elaine Matise Lutz (d. 2017) and his brother, Robert Katchmar.
