Cathy Lynn Cook a lifelong resident of Brighton died Friday, June 19, 2009 at her home in the care of her family. She was 58 years old.
Born in Detroit on July 11, 1950 to parents Ada Fay (nee. Smail) and James E. Cox, Cathy lived her entire life in Brighton. Cathy was one of ten children and grew up in a household always bustling with activity.
Cathys career included a daycare business which she began herself in addition to working for K-Mart and Sears. Cathy connected well with children and loved to bake cookies.
She was lovingly known as Aunt Cathy to any and every child blessed by her care. It was a known and celebrated fact that Aunt Cathy made the very best peanut butter toast--her famous after school snack.
In the late summer and fall, Cathy enjoyed arranging special camping trips for the entire family to the rustic cabins of Island Lake Recreational Park of Brighton.
Cathy loved all holidays: birthdays, Easter, halloween and especially Christmas. She prepared and shopped year-round for Christmas because she so loved giving gifts and made a special effort to ensure that each grandchild had an equal number of gifts. Due in no small part to Cathys expert bargain shopping and enthusiasm for the holidays, it was suspected among Cathys children that the grandchildren anticipated more highly the trip to Grandmas house than the visit from Santa. Cathys grandchildren meant everything to her.
Cathy was preceded in death by her beloved husband the late Brian Rex Cook (d. 1994). Cathy is survived by her loving children, Brian (Lisa) Cook, Shannon Cook, and Jennifer (fiance, Tommy) Cook; dear grandchildren Brian, Jr., Kaylee, Trevor, Lexie, and Chloe; mother Ada Cox; siblings James (Barbara) Cox, Susan Mantikas, Judy Bingham, Nancy (James) Fockler, Jeanie Cox, Connie (Clay) Starick, and Sharon (Kurt) Melvin. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
Funeral from Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors, 600 East Main St., Brighton, Monday, June 22, 11 AM. The Rev. Dr. Richard Alberta to officiate. Burial will follow at Brighton Hills Cemetery. Friends may visit Sunday 2-8 PM. Memorials contributions may be in Cathys memory to her family with checks made payable to Brian Cook. For further information, please phone 810.229.2905.
