GRIEF & HEALING
affirmations to uplift & help you through
each stage of the grieving process.
Carol Ann Welch, a longtime resident of Brighton, died on July 10, 2016, surrounded by her family. She was 65 years old.
Carol was born on July 7, 1951, in Oswego, New York, the youngest daughter to Richard and Helen (nee. Golas) Callaghan. Growing up in a military family, Carol moved often, but fate led her to Jefferson City, Missouri schools where she met the young John Joseph Welch. After high school, on June 20, 1970, Joe and Carol married in Jefferson City. Following Joe’s time in the military, the couple moved to Michigan to explore Joe’s job opportunities with Ford Motor Company. Joe and Carol settled in Brighton in 1985 where they raised their two boys, Doug and Thomas. Carol was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be remembered for her generosity, her joyous singing and her love of life and devotion to the people she treasured.
Carol earned her bachelor's degree in dietetics from Eastern Michigan University and began working at hospitals and senior living facilities. She was thrilled when she was offered a position as the meal planner and food service coordinator with the University of Michigan. Carol often reflected fondly over the friendships she made through work and the students who became her extended family.
After her retirement in July 2011, Carol continued to stay active and busy with book clubs, golf leagues, sewing quilts and blankets, working out and spending a lot of time enjoying her favorite hobby: spending time with family and friends. A people person at heart, Carol truly enjoyed the companionship of good people and could quickly make a stranger into a friend through good conversation.
She is survived by her loving husband of forty-six years, Joe Welch; sons, Doug (Katie) and Thomas (Amy); grandchildren, Mason and Emily; sister, Sharon (Richard) Pemberton and two canine companions, Tucker and Allie, as well as many dear extended family members and dear friends.
