Barbara (nee. Hesterman) Bluhm of Brighton, Michigan died at her home on November 11 in the care of her family. She was 77 years old. Born on December 21, 1939 in Defiance, Ohio, she was one of two daughters of Ferdinand and Esther Hesterman. She grew up in Ridgeville Corners, Ohio.
In September of 1957, Barb met Kent (Tex) Bluhm when she started her freshman year at Valparaiso University. Two years later, they married on June 6, 1959 and moved to Anderson, Indiana where their two sons were born and raised. In 1967, the family moved to Franklin, Wisconsin and their daughter was born a year later. The family moved to Rochester, Michigan in 1978 and after additional moves between Michigan and lndiana, Barb and Tex retired to Brighton, Michigan in 1996.
Barb was dedicated to bible study and worshiping at Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church; she loved traveling; spending time with her sons, daughter and grandchildren at their homes in Florida and Colorado; and spending time with her circle of friends and church family.
Barb is survived by Kent, her faithful husband of 58 years; her loving sons, Bradly (Laura) Bluhm and Scott (SallyAnn) Bluhm; her devoted daughter, Heidi (Steve) Elzinga; her adored grandchildren, Nicole, Connor, Cayla, Sawyer, Ethan and Travis; and caring sister, Suzanne (nee. Hesterman) Frost; as well as a host of extended family and dear friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church, 2101 South Hacker Road, Brighton, on Wednesday, November 15 at 11 AM. The Reverend Mark D. Milatz to officiate. Visitation will be held at Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church on Tuesday, November 14 from 5-8 PM. A luncheon will be held in the church fellowship hall following the Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church, Brighton or Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana.
