Arthur Leroy Longmate, passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at Independence Village in Brighton. He was 91 years old.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret in 1982.
Husband of Pearl; father of Marjorie (Edward) Monkevich of PA, Betty Murphy of Milan, MI, Arthur (Nancy) Longmate of Ft. Wayne, IN, and James Longmate of Chapel Hill, NC; grandfather of Michael (Peggy) Monkevich, Matthew (Kelly) Monkevich, Karla (Ralph) Monkevich, Debby Murphy, Matthew, Andrew, and Johnny Longmate, and five very special great-grandchildren; brother of Virginia (Joseph) Goetz of Livonia, Marion Tucker of Livonia and Robert (Carol) Longmate of Westland.
Art was retired from Sharon Steel in Dearborn, where he worked for over 45 years, an Army veteran who served in the Asia Pacific Theatre during WWII, and a member of the Detroit Masonic Lodge #2. He was a gifted woodworker and loved to share his creations, most notably his cedar crosses, through which he shared his love for Jesus Christ, Our Lord.
A Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later date. Memorials may be made in his name to Arbor Hospice.
