Obituary for Andrew John Sutter

Andrew (Drew) Sutter, age 25, a native of Hartland, MI and a resident of Southgate, MI, made his journey to join God’s softball team on May 22, 2019. Drew was a Diabetic, and it is believed that Drew’s passing was related to his diabetes.

Drew was born in Elkhart, IN on July 24, 1993. Drew was the youngest of four children. His older brother’s, Craig and Ryan, and older sister, Alyssa, made sure Drew knew his youngest child status in the family. The countless punches in the shoulder and constant teasing are what molded Drew into the even keeled person he was.

Drew graduated from Hartland High School in 2012, after which, he followed in his oldest brother’s footsteps to attend Central Michigan University. After one semester, Drew decided he liked his sister a little more and decided to transfer to Western Michigan University.

At Western Michigan University, Drew lived with his sister in her apartment, where they adapted her dining room into a makeshift bedroom. As everything else in life, Drew thought it was the neatest college living quarters.

Drew’s sister, Alyssa, helped Drew get a job at Lawson Ice Arena, which eventually led to Drew’s Zamboni days. Most importantly, Drew met the love of his life, Nadia, while working at Lawson. To complete the three musketeers, Drew’s high school acquaintance, Pierre, also went to work at Lawson Ice Arena and eventually, they became the best of friends.

After completing his studies at WMU, Drew went to work at the family business. Drew’s responsibility was in purchasing, but most importantly, Drew got to work alongside his brother, Ryan and his dad.

To know Drew is to love Drew. He loved being part of a team. His even keeled demeanor and his kindness for others were his greatest attributes.

Drew was most memorably remembered for the good deals he would find at work; his record setting gas mileage; his spotless vehicles with a fresh application of tire black; his willingness to cook out to reward the rest of the employees; his closeness he had with his brothers and sister in each of their own unique way; his way of always being there when you needed him to be; his determination to hit home runs in softball (even though he was told many times that he wasn’t a home run hitter) and his love for his family. And finally, Drew was known for his love of fantasy sports. In many ways, it was the excuse we all needed to send Drew a text or give him a call looking for advice.

Most of all, Drew loved his family. Drew and Nadia bought a house down the street from where Nadia grew up. Together, they have two dogs, Charlie and Archie. Just like at work, Drew loved being a part of Nadia’s team.

When we think of Drew, we point to the heavens and thank God we had him for twenty-five years!

He is survived by his parents, Jeff and Pam Sutter; fiancee, Nadia Fakih; his siblings, Craig (Cassie) Sutter, Ryan (Amy) Sutter and Alyssa (Bryan) Dutton; nieces and nephews, Emmett, Edie, Jonah, Madalynn, J.J. and Godson, Braxton; grandparents, Joanne Sutter and Jack and Shirley DeShone; Nadia’s family; mother, Kerry Fakih (Gabe McClain); father, Ali Fakih and her brother, Jamal Fakih; his loyal canine companions, Archie, Charlie and Rosie. Drew is also survived by many aunts, uncles, extended family members and dear friends.

He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Les Sutter (d. 2009).
