Obituary for , Jr. Albert Joseph Debusschere

Albert Joseph Debusschere, Jr., a resident of Brighton, formerly of Dearborn Heights, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2011. He was 62 years old.

Born in Garden City, Michigan on March 24, 1949, the son of Albert & Mary Ann Debusschere, Sr., Al grew up in Dearborn Heights and graduated from Riverside High School. While working for J.L. Hudson Department Store, he met Barbara Rauscher, the love of his life. Al, a Catholic boy, maintained a steady persistence in pursing Barbara who was raised in a Baptist household. He chased her around the department store never missing the chance to make her laugh and smile. In sharing stories of their origins, Al recalled that the moment hed seen Barbara, he knew she was the one for him. On March 6, 1971, they were married in Rosebud, Arkansas. Mr. & Mrs. Debusschere made their home in Dearborn Heights and were soon blessed with the births of their daughters, Rene, Gracie, Mary and son, Albert, III. Hoping for a more creative position with Ford Motor Company, Al thought it best to continue his education at Center for Creative Studies in Detroit where he was accepted into the Industrial/Automotive Design program based on the strength of his portfolio. Following graduation from CCS, he began his longtime career as a Car Stylist with Ford. In 1993, during the merger of Ford and Mazda, Al and his family moved to Japan where he continued his work in automotive design. A landscape and culture vastly different from anywhere in America, Japan proved to be a once in a lifetime experience that enriched his family. In 1994, the Debusschere family returned to America, making their most recent home in Brighton. Always engaged creatively, Al has enjoyed restoring and bringing new life to a range of things through the years. From classic automobiles, including his treasured Model A, to overlooked objects found at the flea market, his meticulous eye and careful precision could improve the value and authenticity of anything that earned his attention. His lovable personality and unmistakable sense of humor has been responsible for an uncountable number of smiles and fond memories.

In addition to his beloved wife, Barbara (nee Rauscher), Al is survived by his daughters, Rene (Mark) Karpenko, Gracie (Marc) Maroncelli, Mary (Matt) Chambers; son, Al Joe Debusschere, III; grandchildren, Ian Karpenko, Collyn, Luke and Chloe Maroncelli; Lilly Chambers; sisters, Ann (Tom) Jones, Peggy (Michael) Lewis; brothers, Richard (Nancy) and Dennis (Cori). Al is also survived by his mother-in-law, Mary Frances Rauscher, many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 600 E. Main St., Brighton on Thursday, July 7th at 10:30AM with Fr. David F. Howell officiating. Friends may visit on Wednesday 3-9PM.
